Coming home

Yesterday I collected Eldest Beautiful Daughter back from her halls of residence, her 1st year at university is over. It didn't really ever feel like she'd left home as every weekend she would come back here, complete with dirty laundry for me. For all of June she was in a teaching placement in a school close to this house so she's been back at home for ages. But yesterday she officially gave up her keys and back home to Mummy.

She has decided that she rather likes it here, with the laundry, fridge filling, maid and full taxi service and she's not going to live away from home again. Ever. Much to the chagrin of the other 2 who have been dying to move into her room. If she doesn't pass her driving test before October 1st I am going to have a massive school run.

I have this horrible fear that rather than my children grow up and leave home, they will remain in the suspended animation of childhood with me mummying them forever and I will become the old woman who lived in a shoe as they add their partners and their children to the household.

If they do that I'm going back to my Mum and Dad.

I'd pack and leave now...I just know your mam and dad will be delighted to have their little girl back...

They don't call them the "Boomerang Generation" for nothing!

Mine has been back home for a month. There have been a couple of tantrums. Now he brings his girlfriend back a few nights a week too. My living room is not mine own. Ditto the telly. He's moving out to his bijou flat in a posh part of the city in August. A lovely, 'chi chi' area with coffee bars, conventional drinking holes, restaurants and shops that sell Cath Kidston to yummy mummies.

I'm wondering when I can move in??!

I don't know, you could become auntiegwen the matriarch, with all your children and grandchildren dancing attendance on you. How you get it to that point I'm not quite sure...

When I think of Man-Child leaving for college my heart breaks - and then he does something that makes me think he needs to hurry up and go!

Number 1 son moved out before he was 18, number 2 son is firmly entrenched in his room here, he is 22, my daughter said the other day 'Sorry mum, but I won't be living here by the time I'm 28' Oh don't be sorry!!! She will be 21 in November, so does that mean she will still be here in 6 years time! I love having them around must admit :)

Ours have both been away this week. It's been an amazing experience. It's been amazing how quickly we got used to being just the two of us and amazing how much our food bills dropped (by two thirds!)

i was just thinking about you the other day and when EBD left to go and already she is back. It goes so fast. I am practising on being a mean mum so they feel life can be better elsewhere. I am failing terribly

(Well if I had to do it..why shouldn't you?)

My 16 year old daughter while sat up in bed with me this morning, drinking her fruit juice and playing on her DSi, announced that she will probably leave home when she is about 35! At this rate I will be single for the rest of my life!

dearest all

I was with my friend last night and she reminded me of how wobbly I was at the thought of laura going to uni and now I'm mumping about them never leaving me. I think I'd mind less if they did more, why do we make it so nice for them?
