Texting for old people - a guide for the middle aged

My sister sent me this, as I near 45, she obviously feels I need to save as much time as I can

ATD - at the doctors

BFF - best friends funeral

BTW - bring the wheelchair

FWIW - forgot where I was

GHA - got heartburn again

IMHO - is my hearing aid on?

WAITT - who am I talking to?

These are my most frequently needed phrases - so helpful - thanks... and here's one for you: DWU - don't wait up- as in teenage talk for my social life is in full swing until early hours.

I like Betty's contribution. In the same vein, how about OSTI - Off spending the inheritance :)

I have just shown this to my teenagers so they know what I am texting them about in the future.

My eldest used to text me and at the end of his messages he'd put 'TBK.' After many hours of puzzling and not wanting to ask therby showing my ignorance, I reluctantly admitted defeat and asked him what it meant. "I wondered why you never texted back (TBK)," he said. Smart ass!

what worries me is that I don't know what they really stand for either *sigh*

Very useful...I'll make a list..I'll add the list to my other lists. Endless lists of reminders which become essential when age affects one's memory (oh dear..having a feeling old day today :-(

lol....I try to use this initial and abbreviation lark and fail hopelessly most of the time. But this kind of brief reference I would use more often.....RSVP....?

There were a few more in the text that I received:

GGPBL:Gotta Go Pacemaker Battery Low.

GGBM: Had Good Bowel Movement

GGLKI: Gotta Go Laxative Kicking In !!

made me think..if we once said we're as young as wow we feel can we know be as young as the SMS we use?

I sure hope so... LOL!!

I am such a pedant that I can't bear to use abbreviations, and spend forever crafting text messages that are grammatically correct. Which probably marks me out as old anyway!
