22

Today my eldest beautiful daughter is 22, that was a bit of a shocker for me, in my head I'm about 35 I think!

For the first time in her life I won't see her on her birthday as she is in Dusseldorf and it's a bit far to pop over for a pizza and a glass of wine. Melancholy wee soul that I am I wonder if it will be like this from now on in, she doesn't have any plans to come back to the UK, she has signed up for another year teaching in Germany and then think she might transfer to the Madrid school.

I'm really, really pleased she's doing this, if you have been reading this blog for a while, she was my chick that had to be shoved out of the nest, she wasn't at all keen on this independence malarkey at all but she's now embraced it.

So happy birthday to my practice child, you mean the world to me and I am so privileged to be your Mummy.

My boy won't be at home for his 22nd birthday in June - and like you - for the first time ever, I won't see him on the day. It already feels strange. He's delighted though - he'll be in Brazil on holiday!!

CQ - just another day at school for L, she would be delighted to be in Brazil!

22 is like proper grown up. 21 seems a bit like 'my child is 21 now' but 22 seems all could be married with kids age. Happy Birthday proper grown up child. And AG that photo makes you look jolly young yourself, I don't believe these children could have caused you a bean of stress at all managing to stay so young looking :)

My oh my......what a beautiful picture...and I so remember that 'first time of not seeing your child on their birthday' feeling...its a bit discombobulating 'cos you realise they truly are adults......still searching for a way to be grown up..but then so are we all... xxxxx

KV - I actually got married 2 weeks before my 22nd birthday, I love that photo it is my favourite of me and L as a grown up. It is sadly over 5 years old now!

Libs - yep, spoke to her on Skype yesterday though, which was nice xxx

Well done your daughter for embracing independence. There's a wonderful life out there to be lived and I'm sure she will love every moment. Happy 22nd birthday to her, and a big hug for you (( x))

aaah what a lovely pair...happy birthday to her (although I've already said that on Facebook)..the thing is they can be difficult to get rid of, but once they find their freedom, there's no turning back!

Happy birthday to your beautiful daughter and she is indeed beautiful. They do fly the nest don't they.
Ours has just accepted a job in Japan, alas.

Oh you both look so pretty, happy birthday to your big girl I hope she enjoyed her day & hope you get to celebrate with her sometime soon.
When do you visit Sri Lanka and which part? You'll probably see a lot more of the country than we did (unless you're looking for a cricket pitch!)

You still are 35, well you must be if I am too.

Mine's just turned 18 and I can't get my head round it. I'm comforting myself by reading blogs such as this one, and Curry Queen, where the nest is emptying but life continues!
