I hate homework

I really do, as a child I seemed to spend all my Sundays doing it. As a teacher I hated setting it because I knew I'd have a fight to get it back in and then I'd have to mark it. As a parent, I hate it because I have to get involved in a way my parents managed to avoid. If it's a subject I know about I mind less, but attracting the wrong men, repelling the right men, lip gloss merits and eating chocolate till you feel sick are strangely missing from the national curriculum.

I have been a mummy for a very long time and it's getting quite wearing to measure rainfall over a week or make an erupting volcano or anything else the year 8 geography teachers get out of the Times Educational Supplement sharing resources site for the 3rd time.

This week, Beautiful Baby Daughter has to measure our carbon footprint. I hate this topic already and we've only just started. The BBD has not been blessed with the can't be arsed gene like the rest of us and she espouses causes with the zeal of the newly converted. She is a girl looking for a cause, when the community Police Officer came to Girls Brigade and gave them a talk on the dangers of drink and drugs, my life was a feckin nightmare. She had this wee whizzy wheel thing that added up your alcohol units and it fair put you off a second glass I can tell you.

She is now a carbon footprint Nazi. Our house is causing all the global warming problems and it's most probably the reason why people are stuck in airports over the world waiting to get back here. Some of my light fittings don't have energy efficient bulbs and not all my appliances are A rated, some of our battery operated devices (steady now) we don't recharge our own batteries for, we leave lights on, use too many gadgets and aren't on a green tariff. On the plus side I did get big ticks for always recycling paper, glass and plastic and never using a tumble drier and I have taught my children not to run the tap whilst brushing their teeth but overall we are not very green, maybe a pale wishy washy eau de nil rather than emerald.

I will just have to wait for this topic to be over and she gets converted to a new cause.

I don't just help I actually do most of their homework, well up to key stage 3 then it gets a bit tricky!
I once got an A* and a letter home for a particularly impressive essay on The Long March!
Last week I cajoled Kitty into doing her art before doing all her science and most of her history. Luckily I don't appear to have any child with quite such enthusiasm for checking our carbon footprint, but Kitty is a mean tidy fairy.

P.S
St Ives is my kids favourite choice with croatia a close second.
The former for the surf and turf the latter for the stunning locations and weather.
This year for us you maybe be jealous to note it is Bonny Scotland and a shepherds cottage by Loch Awe.

Oh darn! I run the tap whilst brushing! Oops! Have fun with your carbon footprint nazi!!! Sounds like she is well on her way to driving you up the wall! Sorry about that!

Thankfully, The Children's Mother is a Middle school LSA so I am excused homework duties. This gives me enormous relief as I believe that the children no longer use slates and chalk, and abacus....

Green may suit you - but is it a patch on black?

but you do have a lovely, little car...and that must be green....

my two have no interest in homework or carbon footprints, lights are left on all day every day and homework is never done until the last minute - I gave up worrying about the homework long ago - but concentrate on turning things off constantly. Our power shower has doubled our water consumption in 1 year - what a shock! will have to send them swimming more often!

Alison - I just could not be arsed to do their homework, everything they hand in is their own and I would LOVE (ICFE) a tidy child. Loch Awe is stunning but will your offspring think so?

SueAnn - I think it's a British obsession at the moment, everyone is trying to be green

Jon - I should have married a LSA, would have been most beneficial I feel, good plan my man, well done you

Matthew - nothing is a patch on my deepest darkest sinful black...

NB - hahaha feck off

Mrs Y - wow, you are obviously very clean, can't beat a power shower can you? well, unless you had David Tennant in there with you

Homework was always done on time by my daughter, but perhaps not quite so timely by my son..glad those days are behind me now. Here at our place we recycle and don't run taps when brushing, have the funny light bulbs that take forever to come on properly and yet our utilities bills are still enough to buy a small car..Wish you had'nt mentioned David Tennant in a power shower....made me feel all unneccessary...........and it's an image that will stay in my mind for a lonnnnnnng time.....but if he speaks it has to be in the scottish accent....if he speaks...which he does'nt have to do....

Oh no, we haven't had that yet...I expect when we do, daughter 1 will want to become an eco warrior!
I'm the same, I tend to stay away from their homework as much as possible and when they mention project I visibly shake! ;0)
